My research focuses on neuroimaging, informatics, mapping brain structure and function, and brain atlasing. I developed multimodal imaging and data aggregation strategies and applied them in a variety of neurological diseases and psychiatric disorders.

Research Focus
Dr. Pappas aims to understand neuropathology in clinical populations such as stroke and Alzheimer's disease. He uses multi-modal brain imaging methods including functional MRI, diffusion imaging, perfusion imaging, and spectroscopy. Before joining LONI, he conducted post-doctoral research at UC Berkeley studying the neural mechanisms of recovery in stroke patients.

Frank G. Shellock
A physiologist with more than 30 years of experience conducting laboratory and clinical investigations in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Radiology and Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. Over the years, he has been involved with the MRI Safety Committees for both the American College of Radiology and the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. Dr. Shellock has authored or co-authored more than 250 publications in the peer-reviewed literature. Three of his medical textbooks are best sellers - Reference Manual for Magnetic Resonance Safety, Implants and Devices; Magnetic Resonance Procedures: Health Effects and Safety; and Kinematic MRI of the Joints: Functional Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Clinical Applications; and MRI Bioeffects, Safety, and Patient Management.
As a commitment to the field of MRI safety, bioeffects, and patient management, he created and maintains the internationally popular website, http://www.MRIsafety.com.
